Wargames
This year at vaticon there will be a multitude of wargaming and wargaming related events that you (yes you!) can take part in! There will be the requisite tournaments (More on that in a bit) but there will also be participation games such as Blood Bowl, Necromunda, Mordheim and everyone's favourite Battlefleet Gothic (Who doesn't like blowing space ship to bits?) This year we urge you to give something a try whether you've never touched a round or square base before or you have more armies than you care to remember, there'll be something for everyone. So if you'd like to try one of the many events we'll be more than happy to show you how the system works.
Now...the tournaments! We'll be running a 1700 point Warhammer 40,000 tournament over the two days of the convention starting on the Saturday and finishing in the evening on the sunday. There will be three games on each day with varying missions and deployment types Alongside this we will be running a Warhammer Fantasy Battle 2000 point tournament on the Sunday. Again there will be three games on the day.
CCGs
Magic: The Gathering: This year we shall be drafting Conflux at Vaticon. Drafts will take place at 11am and 3pm on Saturday. On Sunday at 11am there will be a round-table melee game.
Legend of the the Five Rings: Samurai Edition Winner's Choice Tournament Saturday from 11am
Versus Drafting Saturday at 11am and 3pm Modern Age constructed tournament Sunday at 11pm
Boardgames
Word Games - Friday evening Scrabble, Spinergy and Articulate running from the opening of the con at 6pm. Hilarious consequences guaranteed; any arguments/breakups/blood feuds resulting from disputes about the rules will be settled by hand-to-hand combat outside the pub.
Race for the Galaxy Tournament - Saturday and Sunday Compete for the title of true galactic overlord! Race for the Galaxy will be running every hour throughout the convention from 11am on Saturday; top scoring players have the option of entering a Race for the Galaxy LARP on Sunday afternoon for the title.
RoboRally Tournament Mayhem, carnage and sprockets - be the first to make your way to the checkpoints on the obstacle course (and of course, survive)!
Apples to Apples Tournament GameSoc favourite involving matching the most appropriate item to a definition - may the most devious mind win!
Videogames
Call of Duty 4: Mile High Club Terrorists have taken control of a plane and are holding a VIP onboard Hostage, Your mission is to "pacify" the terrorists and retrieve the VIP. Complete the Mile High Club level in arcade mode with the most points to win. Storm the plane, save the Hostage and make your escape. No problem, right?
Mario Kart: Walugi Stadium Time Trial Race your way to glory by making your way around Waluigi Stadium in the shortest time possible.
Rock Band: Battle of the Bands Try your hand at OkGo's "Here It Goes Again" with your friends and put together the perfect Rock Band Super-Group.
Wii Sports: Ten-Pin Bowling Get your Bowling shoes on, bring the four leaf and lucky rabbit's foot and aim for that 300 game.
Also, this year we are glad to once again host Tír na Smash: Tir Na Smash 2: The imaginatively titled sequel to last years extremely popular "Tir Na Smash" tournament, which marked the beginning of the competitive Smash Bros scene in Ireland. While last year focused primarily on the Gamecube's Super Smash Bros Melee, due to the release since of its long awaited sequel, this year will also include the Wii's Super Smash Bros Brawl as well. Competition will be heated, so if you think you're good at Smash Bros, this is the ideal opportunity to prove yourself wrong!
