Help:Creating articles

There are two approaches to creating a new article.

Creating a new article by URL

Type in the wiki URI and add the article name to it. For example if you wanted to write an article on Wookies, you just enter this URI in your web browser:

http://irishgamingwiki.com/wiki/Wookie

Then, click on the red edit link at the top, log in link if you have to and type away. Have a gander at the editing help section on actually editing an article.

Of course once you've finished editing your article, make sure to save it! BTW When you save the page, make sure to check the "This is a minor edit" checkbox. Minor edits are not included in the RSS or Atom feeds.

Creating a new article by adding a new Article name

Add the name of your proposed article on the Front Page in the relevant section or to another page. For example, the syntax for a article link for Wookie would be:

Wookie

If the article does not exist, it should appear in red. Follow it and on the resulting page, click on the red edit link at the top, log in if you have to and type away. Have a gander at the editing help section on actually editing an article.

Of course once you've finished editing your article, make sure to save it! BTW When you save the page, make sure to check the "This is a minor edit" checkbox. Minor edits are not included in the RSS or Atom feeds.

Creating a Stub

If you want to make a stub, simply create an article, add it to the appropiate category (see below) and add this:

stub

This will mark the article as stub and add it to the Category:Stubs. It will not appear in the RSS or Atom feeds.

Stuff you need to do with a new article

Make sure the article is in the right category. See here for a list of all the categories. An article can belong to more than one category.

To add an article to a category use this syntax:

Many articles are about groups or events and should also be in the category for the appropiate Category:Location.

You should make the article accessible on any relevant article. For example to link the the article Wookie use this syntax:

Wookie

It can also be handy but not vital for new articles to put something in the 'Summary' field. See the editing help section for more.
