Seamus, I can see how Paranoia would be fun, but I'd be cautious about
giving the GM too much power. Essentially, it should be up to the players
how much money they give to charity. So, I'm leaning to the indie game
option, or even just a mod for an existing game.

James, I'm not sure how complex the management of a charity draft would be.
I'm not a bloodbowl player, so I'd need some help to organise something like
that. I think I'd prefer to operate within my own sphere (roleplaying)
unless I could get some reliable help.

Who's the best person to talk to about arranging this event for Gaelcon?

There's a few indie games or storygames that already have a mechanic like
that could work. I'm thinking of fanmail in Primetime Adventures, or gift
dice in The Shadow of Yesterday -
http://tsoy.crngames.com/The_Gift_of_Dice. The clarity some of these
designs have would make the experience fair.

So I wouldn't use a game where the GM is free to throw any obstacle at the
players - I'd want one where no-one at the table could (or would need to)
fudge, but where _everyone_ at the table could buy an extra dice for
charity. GM included.

Or I'd use a GMless game like Contenders, Universalis or Hell for Leather.

I was imagining a gory game of self sacrifice and martyrdom, but yes, you're
probably right. Most gamers would prefer to buy bonuses for the game instead
of wounds for themselves.

Any ideas which system would work best? The advantage of using an indie game
means no one has to write a scenario for it (as most indie games these days
are light on prep), the disadvantage of an indie game is that most players
would have to learn it new.

system - €3 might be excessive - such as in Scion or Star Wars......you'd
have to set up a direct debt or something XDXD or just bring your cheque

Paying for wounds seems counter-productive - you *want* players to be
throwing away money, not avoiding situations where they spend it. Paying for
rerolls and in-game benefits, though...

Hi everyone,

While reading through some RPG design blogs, I came across an idea for
a *charity
*roleplaying event that we could collectively organise for one or more of
the Irish gaming conventions.

Everyone comes to the table with €X. Every time somebody takes a wound, they
actually have to *pay *for it. E.g. "Your leg gets shot off, that's €3." I'd
like to run it with Hell for Leather<http://cobwebgames.com/index.php/games/>,
but I think it would work with any system. You're all creative people. Any
ideas how we could make this work/fun/happen?
