Out in Maynooth University, many years ago or so the tales say, a group of misfits got together with some dice and a desire to try out a new sensation called D&D. They appointed one of their kin as leader and lo, the first game was run. From there, tales of their gaming prowess spread throughout the college and years and now many come to take part in the sacred games which now occur on an almost nightly basis.

As per tradition, each leader is baptised with the blessed inks of the Octopope, herald of the Octogod and his glorious tentacles. Henceforth the Octopope has become the holy symbol of NUI Maynooth's Game Society - his fearsome likeness painted on every warbanner throughout the society's bloody revolutions.

Tales of old and high fantasy, futuristic cities, horrid imagery and terrible imaginings presented by seemingly cruel and sadistic folk we call Games Masters, or Dungeon Masters. But despite the adventures that befall the characters, players return week after week to subject their characters to even more mind-boggling adventures. One year alone, 14 such adventures were undertaken, from D&D to In Nomine, Kult to Traveller, Ravenloft to Cyberpunk, GURPS to 7th Sea.

New adventures played in licensed gaming such as Firefly and Battlestar Galactica. And the Gamesoc extended its reach into board games on a Tuesday and they saw it was good.

Each year, they hold a festival to celebrate gaming prowess. They call it Dominicon. Go ... Visit and share in the adventure!
